High Speed Machines are often perceived as luxury
items, something costly & beyond a common job shop's
justification. VIBRA-FREE JS is introduced to break this
stereotype and bring
the benefits
of High Speed Machining
to American job shops without the typical price
tag. To reflect this vision, we
name this
latest model
JS,
JS
stands
for Job
Shop.
During our numerous field trips, one
recurring observation we have with High Speed Machining
is that HSM
defines
its applications strictly. Certain applications
fit the machine
precisely and amazing results are produced (see
our photo gallery), on the other hand, a common everyday
part, which often needs low end torque more than high
end RPM, may be unfit for high
speed machines.
This might be no issue for a big or
specialty shop that
has enough high speed work and machines for it, but for
many job shops or small mold shops,
dedicating machines is simply not
justifiable. For them, the ability of High Speed Machining
can not come at the price of losing
low end
functions to make chips
before and after their high speed work is done.
With this observation in mind, our VIBRA-FREE team realized,
in order to keep the overall HSM cost of ownership down,
the JS not only needs to carry a
lower
price tag,
it
also need to be more versatile. In a perfect
world, one might want a 50,000RPM spindle which also delivers
300 lb.ft
torque for ultimate versatility, but that is cost prohibit
in reality. VIBRA-FREE JS comes with a
16,000RPM motor spindle, features automatic Hi/Lo Speed
change,
and delivers excellent balance between speed and power.
In
the test cut video below,
the motor
spindle
easily produces a 32µin surface finish with a 1/8" ball
end mill at top RPM (a typical high speed hard milling
application), yet is completely comfortable of roughing
with a 3" shell
mill at low speed (a common everyday job).
Bridge
Structure
It
is an well known fact that no serious high speed
milling
can be accomplished on a conventional C-frame vertical
machine. VIBRA-FREE
JS features our time tested bridge structure
which minimizes overhang and allows optimal weight
distribution between base, table and moving ram.
Most weight is allotted to the stationary fixed bridge
frame, keeping the moving structures light, stubby
and
rigid.
Integral Motor
Spindle
Made
to perform on both high speed and low speed end, its
16,000 rpm spindle comes with its own cooling circulation
system that
maintains
thermal stability through entire RPM span.
Automatic
Hi/Lo speed change make it extra versatile. Practical NBT40
tooling
allows
one
to
use existing BT40 tooling,
yet also offers secondary nose contact for
NBT pre-balanced DFC (double-face-contact) tooling.
FANUC
18i Powered by UHSHM Software
UHSHM
software guarantees smooth
motion. Before a VIBRA-FREE JS goes out the door, parameters
are set for a variety of conditions so one can "change
gears" when dealing with different
challenges. The
world-class Fanuc 18i-MB CNC, advanced AI Nano High Precision
contour control (AI Nano HPCC), 1 Gb data server, Ethernet,
and rigid tapping are
all standard.
Ball Screws
and Roller Guides
All ball screws are double end
fixed & pretensioned for rigidity.
X,Y and Z guides use roller bearings, known for their
high rigidity and
excellent
damping. See chart below for the comparison between ball
bearing guide and roller bearing guide. Roller guide provides
the rigidity comparable to that of box square way, yet do
not have
the typical "stick slip" problem associated with
sliding
motion.
